PRESS RELEASE

Underwater documentary photographer Richard Rossetto has been exploring and capturing images of the springs for 20 years. This photographic project about Florida’s natural resource chronicles his passionate journey to discover the magical and mysterious wonders of the ancient flow.

Florida has more freshwater springs than anywhere on earth. An amazing 19 billion gallons a day of cool, pure crystal-clear water flow from the subterranean depths. Ground water in the underlying limestone aquifer is a mind-boggling quadrillion gallons.

Recently, emerging evidence has shown an increasing decline in spring clarity and water quality. The intrusion of alarming traces of nitrates has found its way to our medicinal waters. Florida’s treasured gems are in grave danger due to contamination of our recharge landscape.

The objective of the Florida Springs Project is to document these spiritual ,and powerful places that have attracted many people over the centuries and to help educate and raise public awareness about this sensitive environmental issue threatening this source of life.
